My first go at writing a critque, the image got to me that much!
Vision/Originality - The thing that really makes this image stand out from others is the birds foot - it really adds something extra and is what makes this stand out from other straight photos of birds, and emphasises that owls are predatory. There appears to be a lot of thought behind the structure and lay out of the photo, showing that artistic consideration went into the image.
Technique - this is a well shot image that captures the features of the subject, and the lighting is nice and clear, making the head the most noticiable feature which is really the stand out of the photo. Given that the head is the feature, it does mean that the lower half/feet are ignored, so it would be possible to crop some of the bottom of the photo off without losing any impact.
Impact - yes - the foot does encourage a double take!
Well, well, well...looks like you have another picture we feel just must be feautred as an example of a barn owl for our contest [link] . Bet you've got more where that came from, right? We still hope you'll enter!!
