Sorry, but thats life by W0LLE Sorry, but thats life by W0LLE
Hungry Hedwig.

Maybe disgusting for some people, but that´s life.

Taken at Wildpark Lüneburger Heide / Hanstedt Nindorf.

Perhaps it is a bit 'graphic' for some, but the shot is beautiful in its composition, lighting and colors. I'm thankful there's no blood so that I can have no reservations about finding the shot appealing...:)

it's either lil chicks or lil mice...even in captivity the food chain must go on...& really...has anyone ever seen a happy vegetarian raptor?

Extra fresh chicken strips.

Does the zoo feed predatory birds chicken instead of mice or other small rodents?

Pretty much any keeper of birds of prey will feed chicks to their birds. For example, there is a ready supply from egg farms that have little need for many roosters (who don't lay eggs); the surplus (rather horrible term for it I know) are killed, frozen and sold in bulk for little cost (you're doing the farm a favour). Since we don't eat mice or anything to do with them, a similar supply of mice isn't really possible.

To make up for the lack of variety, you'll usually find that the birds are given supplements too.

I hope this helps. :)

Ooh, interesting... Thanks for the answer! I wondered about that. Seems like a pretty sensible idea to me, though unexpected (and not for the faint of stomach). :)
